HISTORY, VISION & VALUES
Our vision is for a happy, hospitable, compassionate and just community which helps people help themselves, and our mission is to provide a more effective community process for achieving this vision. We do this by creating a network of volunteers which works with agencies, charitable organisations, local businesses and churches, to identify and provide relief to people in need and find community building solutions in Ludlow and the surrounding villages in South Shropshire.
Our values reflect the behaviours we want to see in the community:
Respect for people. We value all those with whom we work, aiming to promote a more equal and just society. We treat people with compassion, generosity and grace; at the same time motivating them to use their own experience and wisdom to gain independence and seek opportunities for themselves.
Well run services. We provide high quality services with professional standards and procedures, including safeguarding and training for volunteers as needed. We keep to any confidentiality agreements with the people we work with.
Partnering. We work alongside partner organisations and professional agencies avoiding duplication and unnecessary red tape for the benefit of the local community.
Ethical and sustainable. We strive to work only with agencies and companies which share our values and principles. We seek sustainability through independent fund raising.
Growing ambition. We aim to offer help for those living in isolated and rural areas away from Ludlow.
HOW Hands Together LUDLOW STARTED
Two reports were published by Churches Together around Ludlow (CTAL), the first entitled "Ludlow Under Pressure" followed by "Ludlow Under Continuing Pressure" about 18 months later. Both highlight the needs of a wide range of people in this area, including young people, families and the elderly.
There are also problems with transport and isolation which are often felt more keenly in the rural areas that surround Ludlow.
Although some of the issues raised can best be solved by lobbying local and national government, to bring about more fundamental changes, this takes time.
So a group of local people got together to explore ways in which some of the immediate issues could be resolved. The result is Hands Together LUDLOW.
